Caso: Medio Interno - Magnesio / Internal Medium - Magnesium

Mg, like K, is a cation with intracellular distribution par excellence, only 1.0% - 2.0% of the organism's Mg content is found in the extracellular space.
In the intravascular space, approximately 20% is bound to proteins, the rest is in ionic form. In the intracellular space, most of it is located in membrane structures, the portion in free form is minimal and this has a fundamental role in cell physiology. Mg deficiencies affect the intracellular free Mg concentration and with it many cellular processes.
There is a close relationship between the movement of Mg and that of K. In general, a change in the serum level of one of them causes the deviation of the other in the same direction, to the point that the cells are unable to uptake K, despite the contribution, when there is Mg deficiency.
In the kidney, Mg filters at the glomerular level and there is tubular reabsorption with an excretion threshold (Tm).
